Aquarium des lagons à Nouméa (98)

The aquarium is among the most popular tourist and cultural attractions in New Caledonia, with an average of 110,000 visitors per year. Among the species on display is the oldest coral in an aquarium in the world (55 years old). It was the first to exhibit fluorescent corals (1958) and live nautiluses (1962).
The Nouméa Aquarium also includes a care center that takes in about fifteen turtles each year and a research department.
In figures: - 3,600 m² of surface area on a 1.2-hectare site - 43 display tanks containing 693,000 liters of seawater - 1,150 fish of 365 different species - 200 coral colonies - more than 800 events per year - 22 staff members and 78 volunteers.
